The German multinational shipping company announced it would move its North American headquarters to Metro Atlanta. The company plans to invest $18 million at Three Ravinia Drive in Dunwoody. It is expected to create 250 additional jobs across the metro area. Hapag-Lloyd already employs at least 500 across Georgia.

Why it matters: The deal is gives another boost to job growth in the wake of the pandemic. The expansion gives another jolt to logistics employment. Hapag-Lloyd is a major player in shipping. It has 250 container ships and a total transport capacity of 1.8 million TEUs, or 20-foot-equivalent units, a standard measurement of capacity in the shipping business.

What's next: Hapag-Lloyd will be hiring for careers in finance, human resources, IT services. It expects to begin working out of Dunwoody this summer.

The basics: The company agreed to lease 127,115 square feet. Ellen Stern, Sam Holmes, John Springer, Andrew Kaplan and Kyle Kenyon of CBRE;

NewStar Asset Management; The Georgia Department of Economic Development; and Preferred Office Properties LLC worked on brokering and executing the deal.”
